چکیده
UNLABELLED Arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia (ARVD) is both a myocardial disease that predominantly affects the right ventricle (RV) and one of the major causes of sudden death in the young and athletes. A 28-year-old man with no signicant medical history, applied to an emergency department with feeling very ill. After his initial examinations, electrocardiography (ECG) showed ventricular extra systoles and he was recommended for admission to a cardiology polyclinic. The next day, his condition worsened and he was dead on arrival at the hospital. A histological examination of heart samples, which were obtained from the RV and LV, revealed the massive replacement of myocardium by fibrous and mature adipose tissue in the RV. In this case, there were no symptoms, family and medical history and its clinical presentation was as an unexpected sudden death. KEYWORDS Arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia, sudden cardiac death, autopsy.

INTRODUCTION Arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia is a heritable disease of the heart muscle characterized by fibrofatty degeneration of cardiomyocytes. Patients present with ventricular arrhythmias or congestive heart failure, and sometimes sudden cardiac death occurs. Prenatal diagnosis has become possible with the detection of mutations, but, to the best of our knowledge, no case of pr...

متن کاملArrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia presenting as acute coronary syndrome: a case report.
Arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia (ARVD) is underdiagnosed cardiomyopathy which commonly presents in young adults with ventricular tachycardia or sudden death. We report a case of ARVD presenting with features of acute coronary syndrome. The suspicion of ARVD came only when echocardiogram revealed abnormal shape and wall motion of right ventricle, which was later confirmed by right ven...
متن کاملElectrical Storm or Naxos Syndrome in an Adult Causing Recurrent Syncope.
Among the rare and well-known causes of sudden cardiac death by malignant arrthymias is a condition called arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy. It commonly presents with right ventricular dilatation, dysfunction and ventricular tachycardia of left bundle branch morphology due to fibro-fatty infiltration of right ventricle in second to fifth decade of life, making it an unrecognized ...
متن کاملArrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy in a patient with schizophrenia
People with schizophrenia are at greater risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality than the general population. Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy is a recognized cause of sudden cardiac death in young people. This report discusses the necessity for close cardiac evaluation to reduce incidence of sudden death in people with schizophrenia.
